How do I eliminate the Chat Messares I am getting poping up on my yahoo mail plus account?

This problem just started recenty and I can no longer download articles from my e-mails. I have hi-speed sattilate connection and I used to be able to download these messages very quickly, but since the chat garbarge has been poping-up I cannot download by cling on the links from N.Y.Times an other daily E-Mail news.
