How do I prevent logging into chat from browser every time I log into my email?

I don’t know when or why it started, but when I log into my email it automatically logs me into browser chat and logs me out of stand alone yahoo chat.
I don’t like it and want it to stop!

  I have the exact same problem!

  I spent about an hour going through all of the settings in the mailbox and if there is one to turn off the chat, I haven’t found it.

  I agree it is really annoying and something that Yahoo needs to address quickly or they risk losing users.
