I will tell you what I mean by deterioration.
I have been chatting for many years now, and have made many friendships over chat. There have been instances of people falling in love with and marrying fellow chatters. Well, that was some time ago.
Nowadays, I find chat rooms full of sex-starved people. The language used is gross and offensive to many. The proliferation has been much that it no longer remains a place for decent conversation.
Personally, I am saddened by this trend. What are your views on this?

I started chatting probably 10 years ago. I actually had a couple of chat “friends.” I agree with you, I gave up on chat when I saw that the only thing happening in the rooms was people requesting private chat for cyber sex.

I agree with you 100%. There used to be good chat rooms where people could simply get together and … chat. It’s now tending to be all about sex and honest chat rooms where a person only wanted some friendly chat seem to be rapidly disappearing. Truly unfortunate.

I am apathetic about the deterioration of chat rooms.
The problems with chat rooms are that not many people really want to chat with others as there are people trying to solicit others into going on a pornographic site or personal site or view them through their webcams and that there are bots (software programs that imitates the behavior of people).
Additionally, there are bored and angry people that say harsh and ridiculous things to others so they feel better with themselves while there are others that want to see somebody’s picture to use as their own or to write somebody off for not looking attractive (at least in their eyes).
Furthermore, there have always been perverts to use chat rooms as a means of communicating with adolescent girls.
Moreover, nobody can speak their minds as their internet providers can suspend their email accounts if somebody reports them for offensive language.
There are also undercover cops going in chat rooms and Perverted Justice, a non-profit organization that identifies and investigates perverted men by making them think they are talking to underage girls.
Not many people really want to get to know somebody. Like people that text on their cell phones or call up their friends, people chat because they are bored and cannot think of anything better to do. Another problem with online chatting is that people lose interest when they do not find somebody he or she is talking to interesting when they might not be interesting either.
I have found online chatting with people to be one-sided as there is always one person who seems to be doing most of the asking and responding.
I talked at times with an online “friend” who told me at times that she only instant messages people after they instant message her first.
I had another online “friend” that did not care when I emailed her telling her how my day went.
I liked a girl earlier this year who I did not meet at first through a chat room but through a craigslist posting that claimed to “care” about me.
She “cared” about me yet she would never want us to talk on the phone even though we live in the same city and state. Additionally, she claimed to “care” about me even though she would never hanged out with me.
Aside from yahoo answers, I rarely communicate with anybody online.
I am disillusioned with chat rooms and seeking a person to chat out of a craigslist posting.
To me, it is just difficult and a waste of time trying to find somebody that wants to know you and care about you. For me, I have met girls that put me through drama.
I think that it is better to meet people the natural way (face to face) than through chat rooms.
I hope that this helps and take care. I mean that. ~ Alan

I agree with you! People have found the internet a place of prostitution!
the best choice to this is just to avoid sex-related chats
